Central Whangarei
(in Maori, the "Wh" is often pronounced as an F. [But it depends on the iwi.  Some treat it a a W.]   The first a is broad. Also, I heard the locals pronounce the word with the r rolled, almost an occlusive, close to dThe name of the nearby town now called Kerikeri was first orthographed as Kedi Kedi.  "Fong-a-ray / Fawng-a-day")
 
Whangarei has a nice little harbour, the "Town Basin"  right in the city centre
