Milford Evening
The bus arrived in Milford about 4.30 in the afternoon.  Milford is far enough south that the sun is up until about 9.30 in early February, giving us a good five hours of sightseeing.  Normally it is raining in Milford.   Annual rainfall is about 11 metres, or about 370-380 inches.  All the weather systems that develop  in the southern seas barrel westward across the ocean, and the South Island mountains are the first thing they hit.  So, most of the moisture that was picked up along the way gets precipitated right here.  On this day, there was a large high-pressure system that provided clear, fine weather over most of the South Island.
